What is an Electric Vehicle?
It is inevitable that the UK will eventually transition away from fossil fuel vehicles. We are seeing an increase in the proportion of hybrid and electric cars on the road, from 6% of new cars registered in 2018 to 10.7% in 2020. This transition is being accelerated through new governmental environmental regulations; in 2017, the UK government announced that the sale of new petrol and diesel cars would be banned by 2040. This date was brought forward to 2035 last year and again to 2030 a few months later.

What electric vehicle cover do we offer?
What Does Comprehensive Insurance Offer?
Comprehensive cover insures against any accident that you may have, whether it’s your fault or not. This includes damage caused to your car when it is unattended, such as a vandalism incident or a hit and run. However, whether or not it is your fault, claims can result in loss of No Claims Bonus, so check before you claim. Comprehensive cover also covers your legal liability to third parties (including damage to their vehicle or compensation for injuries sustained if the accident was your fault). The cover extends to fire damage to your car, or damage arising out of the theft or attempted theft of your car.
What Does Third Party, Fire and Theft Insurance Offer?
Your legal liability to third parties is covered (including damage to their vehicle or compensation for injuries sustained if the accident was your fault). The cover also extends to fire damage to your car, or damage arising out of the theft or attempted theft of your car.
What Does Third Party Only Insurance Offer?
Your legal liability to third parties is covered (including damage to their vehicle or compensation for injuries sustained if the accident was your fault). There is no cover for damage to your car from any cause whatsoever. This complies with the minimum legal requirements of the Road Traffic Act and very little more.
Breakdown Cover Provided by the RAC
We know you want great value breakdown cover from a name you can trust, which is why Vavista has partnered with the RAC. The RAC Patrols fix 4 out of 5 vehicles at the roadside within 30 minutes on average, so you can get back on the road, fast.
You have different levels of breakdown cover to choose from. Options include Roadside Rescue, Recovery, At Home Rescue, Onward Travel and European Cover. Simply choose the level of cover that suits you and add it onto your insurance policy.

Electric Vehicle Myth-busting
However, if you are planning a longer trip, fully electric vehicles have an average range of 197 miles, with many models able to go much further on a single charge. The average charging time can range from 30 minutes and up to more than 12 hours.
This all depends on the speed of the charging station and the size of the battery. Alternatively, rather than relying solely on an electric motor, hybrid electric vehicles offer a mixture of battery and petrol (or diesel) power. This makes them better for travelling long distances as you can switch to traditional fuels rather than having to find charge points to top up the battery. Long journeys are made easier by the ever-improving infrastructure, and there are now over 22,000 public electric vehicle charging devices found across the UK.
