As the days grow longer and the temperature starts to rise, the sun shines into our homes and reminds us it might be time for a spring clean! The thought of deep cleaning your house might seem daunting. But if you break it down, you can tackle each section and work your way through step by step.

That’s why we have put together this blog with 5 home spring cleaning tips: –

1. Declutter and Organise

Studies show too much mess can affect our mental health. In one survey 47% of people admitted a cluttered home makes them feel stressed, and 22% said it annoys or upsets them.[1]

Spring is the perfect time to declutter your living space. After the madness of Christmas, go through wardrobes, cabinets, and drawers one by one. Decide if you want to sell, donate, or throw away items you no longer need or use. Use storage to organise small items like pens or make up so everything has a place and can be found easily. A clutter-free home not only looks better but can also give you a sense of peace and tranquility.

2. Deep Clean Floors and Carpets

Over the winter months, dirt, dust, and grime can accumulate on floors and carpets. Winter weather means walking in mud and rain that the dim light will make you miss.  Think about renting or buying a carpet cleaner for your carpets and rugs or a steam cleaner for hard floors. If you don’t feel you can do this safely, consider hiring a professional. Deep cleaning floors can not only makes your house look great, it can also kill any germs and create a healthier indoor environment.

3. Attack the Appliances

We use appliances nearly nonstop, but when do we take the time to clean them? Pulling out your fridge, washing machine, toaster, dishwasher, microwave, and oven could reveal a lot of grime you never usually see. It’s also a handy time to defrost your freezer while the weather is warm and deep clean the oven while you are eating salads and BBQ food. 4. Refresh Outdoor Spaces

Spring cleaning isn’t limited to the inside of your house; outdoor spaces can now be spruced up ready for summer use! Clean the patios and any outdoor furniture, cut the grass, and weed the flowerbeds.

The winter can be hard on the exterior of your house. Clear debris from gutters and inspect the exterior of your home for any signs of damage or wear.  For example, if water seeps into your foundation because of clogged gutters, it could end up costing you anywhere from £1,500 to £7,000 on average to fix.[1] Make sure you have the correct home insurance should the worst happen.

5. Check Safety Devices

Take the time to test and inspect safety devices throughout your home. Studies show that 93% of households owned a working smoke alarm in 2021 and 2022. However, over 20% of those reported they had never tested their smoke alarm.[1] Check smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms, once a month at minimum, by pressing the test button until the alarm sounds. Change the batteries at least once a year (unless it’s a ten-year alarm) or as needed.

Ensure fire extinguishers are fully charged and accessible. Inspect locks and deadbolts on doors and windows to make sure they’re working. Taking proactive measures to maintain safety devices can safeguard your home and protect your loved ones.
